Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders

Episode 1 : Just after the end of the First World War, Thomas Shelby and his family run the most feared and powerful gang in Birmingham – making money from illegal betting, protection and the black market. Thomas recognises an opportunity to move up in the world when a crate of guns goes missing from an arms factory, but government minister Winston Churchill sends in a ruthless police chief from Belfast to impose order on the increasingly lawless city and recover the weapons.

Episode 2 : Chief Inspector Campbell carries out a violent raid on the gang’s territory and demands a meeting with Thomas, who is later sent a bullet with his name on it after picking a fight with a gypsy family at a country fair. Meanwhile, Aunt Polly is shocked to discover Ada is pregnant, and when Thomas discovers his former war comrade Freddie Thorne is the father, he devises a plan to get his old friend out of town.

Episode 3 : Two men claiming to be IRA sympathisers approach Thomas in the Garrison and offer to buy the missing crate of guns they have heard he has in his possession. The gang leader also goes to Cheltenham races with Grace, where he aims to persuade kingpin Billy Kimber to make the Peaky Blinders part of his operation, while Ada secretly marries communist agitator Freddie Thorne.

Episode 4 : The war with the Lees escalates when they ransack the Shelbys’ betting shop, while John reveals he intends to remarry, but his choice of bride does not go down well with his family. Chief Inspector Campbell puts more pressure on Thomas to deliver Freddie Thorne and the crate of stolen guns to him, while Grace begins to glean more information about the Peaky Blinders’ illegal operations.

Episode 5 : Thomas deals with an IRA chief who has come to Small Heath to avenge his cousin’s death. Meanwhile, Campbell gets closer to finding the stolen guns and Grace has to decide whether her loyalties lie with the inspector or with Thomas.

Period drama, starring Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill, Helen McCrory and Annabelle Wallis.

Beware, this TV drama is not yet finished, there will be a finale next week. I just could not resist to talk about that show. At the beginning, I thought I didn’t like it. But after the third episode, it was like, what’s gonna happen? Will Grace fall in love? Will there be dead amongst the characters I learnt to care about? All the actors (main and secondary characters) are great and the story is very well written by Steven Knight. If you want a happy ending, stop at the fifth episode… We will see next week if Campbell succeed in destroying the Shelby clan. I promise not to spoil the end for you.
