Episode 1 : Alan is regaining consciousness after his heart scare. Celia is so relieved, she promises never to fall out with him again – and realising life is too short, the couple decide to get married as soon as possible. Things aren’t quite so rosy between Caroline and John, however – having arrived home to find him in bed with Judith, she decides to go one better and invites Kate to move in. Meanwhile, Gillian’s relationship with her father takes a knock when he discovers she slept with John.
Episode 2 : Alan and Celia have tied the knot at last – but their first day as man and wife isn’t exactly plain sailing. Caroline finds a way to buy John out of the house, only for her relationship to be threatened by Kate’s desire for a baby, and a new arrival surprises everyone – especially Gillian.
Episode 3 : The OAP couple’s family continue to battle their various problems. Gillian is devastated when Celia inadvertently reveals a huge personal secret her stepdaughter has been keeping ever since she was 15 – and her already troubled relationship with Alan deteriorates as he distances himself from her. Meanwhile, Lawrence finds his mum Caroline’s new relationship difficult to accept, making her girlfriend Kate feel awkward around the teenager.
Episode 4 : Having waited 60 years to finally get married, Alan and Celia decide to tie the knot yet again – giving all their family and friends a chance to attend the ceremony this time around. Caroline whisks Kate away for the weekend, although what should be a romantic break turns out to be anything but when they end up falling out, threatening to end their relationship for good. Meanwhile, just as it seems Gillian and Robbie are back on friendlier terms, a revelation from Judith changes everything.
Episode 5 : Caroline is stunned to learn that Kate is pregnant, and as if that wasn’t enough for her to take, John also has shocking news – before Gillian shares a dark, sinister secret with her stepsister. Meanwhile, Celia is reluctant to introduce Alan to her sister Muriel.
Episode 6 : Gillian wakes up in a panic after remembering last night’s confession, although her stepsister’s reaction surprises her. Caroline, however, soon has problems of her own to worry about when pregnant girlfriend Kate is rushed to hospital. Has she lost the baby? Preparations are well under way for Alan and Celia’s big day, although while she is focusing on the ceremony, he seems more concerned about the stag do. However, the news that the groom’s brother won’t be flying over puts paid to the idea of getting the entire family together. Finally, the day arrives and the celebrations are in full swing – but with Caroline’s emotions running high and Gillian eager to make a move on Robbie, will it all go smoothly?

Two months after watching the first series, I had the pleasure to get back to these ordinary but nonetheless endearing characters. After mini dramas and quarrels, all’s well that ends well. I’m looking forward to discover what Sally Wainwright will come up with for the next series …
